Kashan named forth Iran’s Book Capital

IBNA- The city of Kashan was named as the forth Iran’s Book Capital during a ceremony held at Tehran's Vahdat Hall yesterday.
According to IBNA correspondent, located in the central province of Isfahan, Kashan was selected from among 20 other cities which had also been nominated to be the new Iran’s Book Capital.
Kashan was appointed for what is said to be “proposing innovative, coherent and participatory plans and taking advantage of its industrial, cultural and artistic potentials”.
The Iranian National Commission for UNESCO and Culture Ministry granted the plaque of honor and three hundred million rials as a cash reward to the director of Kashan’s Culture and Islamic Guidance Department and the mayor.
The other Iranian cities, Mahabad in West Azarbaijan, Sadra in Fars Province, Dezful in Khuzestan Province and Yazd in Yazd Province were also honored by the plaque of honor and cash reward.
In February 2015, the Ministry of Culture and Iranian National Commission for UNESCO signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate and implement the plan of selecting and introducing a city as “Iran's Book Capital”.
Giving support to the program of reading encouragement within the framework of UNESCO's cooperative programs; participation at honoring ceremonies held for cultural figures; to report the Iranian creative and inventive cultural activities to international organizations are among the other objectives defined in the MoU.
Earlier, the cities, Ahvaz, Neyshabur and Busheher were selected as Iran's Book Capital.
