IBNA- Concurrent with the 36th Fajr International Film Festival, a Persian book on the cinema of the acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami will be unveiled.
According to IBNA
correspondent, director of research and publication department of the 36th Fajr International Film Festival
Emad Hosseini said that the book features authored and translated articles about Kiarostami
as well as three interviews with the late filmmaker.
“The book contains eight articles and three interviews return and translated by both Iranian and foreign experts. The articles consider the works of Kiarostami from different viewpoints,” he said.
“For example, Nacim Pak-Shiraz
(PhD) who is the Head of Department and Senior Lecturer in Persian and Film Studies at the University of Edinburgh
has an article in the book which observes the films of Kiarostami from the Islamic and Shi’a worldview. We hope that this book provides further insight into the methods of the great filmmaker,” Hosseini added.
Several books have already been published about the life and work of Kiarostami. For instance, ‘Abbas Kiarostami and Lessons on Cinema’ is a compilation of notes the author-who had himself participated in Kiarostami’s filmmaking course in Spain-wrote down and edited as a book.
The books which have been published in English about Kiarostami and his works include:
‘Abbas Kiarostami’ by Mehrnaz Saeed-Vafa and Jonathan Rosenbaum; ‘Abbas Kiarostami: Images, Still and Moving’ by Silke von and Berswordt-Wallrabe; Men At Work: Cinematic Lessons From Abbas Kiarostami by Mahmoud Reza Sani (Author), Melanie Hughes (Editor), Alireza Lalehfar (Translator), Azadeh Jahantabi Nejad (Cover Design), Jean-Claude Carrière (Foreword); ‘The cinema of Abbas Kiarostami’ by Alberto Elena.
