Swiss Iranologist’s work to be reviewed in Tehran

IBNA- A meetings in Tehran’s Book City will review the work of Swiss Iranologist and Islamic studies scholar Johann Christoph Burgel on Tuesday, January 22.

correspondent, born on September 16, 1931, in Gottesberg, Switzerland, Johann Christoph Burgel
is one of the most prominent Iranologists of Europe. He has carried out many research works on Persian literature, mysticism and Islamic, Turkish and Urdu studies within several decades.
Burgel received his PhD in philosophy from the Göttingen University of Germany in 1960. He was Assistant of that university in 1960-1970 and has been the Professor of Islamic studies University in Bern, since 1970. The scholar is also a member of International Association for Study of Asian Medicine (board directors).
His works include: ‘Intoxication, Earthly and Heavenly: Seven Studies on the Poet Hafez of Shiraz’, ‘Nightingales at God’s Throne: Studies on Persian Poetry’, ‘Three Studies on Hafez: Goethe and Hafez’ and ‘Iqbal und Europa’.
The Tehran meeting on Burgel will be held with the Swiss Cultural Attaché to Iran Thomas Widmer and several Iranian experts such as Asghar Daadbeh, Maryam Moshref and Ali Abdollahi in attendance.
