Yazd elected new Iranian Book Capital

IBNA- Members of the jury board for introducing the the fifth Iranian Book Capital elected the central city of Yazd.
According to IBNA
correspondent, The closing ceremony of electing and introducing the new Iranian book capital was held yesterday with First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri; Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Abbas Salehi, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohsen Javadi and several cultural directors in attendance who designated Yazd is the fifth Iranian book capital.
The other cities which had been nominated to be book capital included: Mahabad and Urumieh from West Azarbaijan Province; Shahr-Ray of Tehran Province; Khourmoj and Borazjan from Bushehr Province; Dezful and Ramhormoz from Khuzestan Province; Sabzevar from Khorasan Razavi Province.
Khoramabad from Lorestan Province; Khash from Sistan and Baluchestan Province; Rafsanjan, Bam and Sirjan from Kerman Province, Eslamabad-e Gharb from Kermanshah province; Shiraz and Uz and Sadra from Fars Province; Babol from Mazandaran Province as well as Abarkouh and Yazd from Yazd province were the other nominees.
The plan for electing Iranian book capital was implemented after the Ministry of Culture and Iranian National Commission for UNESCO signed a letter of understanding in 2015 to cooperate, selecting and introducing a city as “Iran's Book Capital” and the” Village of Book Enthusiasts”.
