NLAI concerned with Persian docs, manuscripts in Tanzania
Referring to the existence of some Persian manuscripts and documents in Tanzania, director of the National Library and Archives of Iran said they are worried about how these documents are kept in poor conditions. IBNA: Eshaq Salahi added: "We had a journey to Tanzania and visited the national library and archives of this country that has over 500 years of common history with us. During this visit, we found about a number of viable documents about Iran as well as photo archives and Persian calligraphic manuscripts and Qurans that had been taken by Iranian immigrants to this land."
Referring to poor conditions of bookkeeping in this country, he added that the extremely humid climate of the land has caused damages to these documents and the number of Persian documents in Tanzania has not been measured.
Salahi went on to say that computer facilities in this country are rare and limited to few centers; therefore document preservation methods are pretty primitive and they are kept in public halls and shelves.
He added: "A document is an old piece of paper with a limited lifetime, and that is why we are worried about Persian documents in Tanzania. So we are going to teach Tanzanian exerts the science of document preservation, indexing, categorizing and digitalizing docs. Moreover, we are going to scan all these documents a copy of which will be delivered to Iran."
"Having reached agreement on this, further task travels will be made and an expert delegation will be dispatched to Tanzania to teach Tanzanian experts at Darussalam," he asserted; "theoretical lessons of document reparation will be taught there and then they will come to Iran for practical workshops."
