  Truth stays with nobody: Dinani

5 Dec 2011 15:40
During a ceremony held on the commemoration of Allameh Tabatabaei, Gholamhossein Ebrahimi Dinani said: "We should pay tribute to Allameh Tabatabaei and philosophers like him as they have shown us parts of the Truth. However, I believe that the Absolute is latent and curtained for us and the truth would never stay with anyone.
IBNA: A large part of Dinani's speech dealt with the current state of philosophy in the crisis of state-of-the-art technologies.

"Scientific developments today – including quantum physics that is recently discussed by Dr Rasoul Roknizadeh at 'Philosophy and Physics conference – is moving fast so speedily that some scientists might think philosophy's time is over. Philosophy never ends as it is invulnerable. The more you try to destroy it, the stronger it becomes. Philosophy is criticizing and being criticized.

Director of Islamic Philosophy Department of Iranian Institute of Philosophy continued: "Without philosophy, there will be no science. One should enter the lab with a theory while the theory is achieved through philosophy. You should never worry about philosophy because it is open to criticism. It does not matter if Aristotle and Mulla Sadra look outdated, because philosophy is not limited to books."

Then referring to the character of Allameh Tabatabaei, he said: "We should pay tribute to figures such as Allameh Tabatabaei as each of them has revealed a small part of truth. Without them we should have started all over again."

He continued: "No thinker shows us absolute truth. I find that truth latent in curtains and therefore, no one can claim that he has all the truth at hand."

He regarded thinkers like Allameh Tabatabaei and Allameh Helli as unique figures in the world of Islam and added: "Without him I do not know what would have happened to me. Before I became familiar with him I was so perplexed that I was thinking of committing suicide. His masterly kindness changed my life."

Emphasizing on the dynamism of philosophy, Ebrahimi Dinani continued: "We will be wretched fellows if we confine ourselves to Aristotle and his lookalikes. We should set free of ideas and frameworks and should not stop with a single person. Philosophy is constantly moving forward by questioning everything."

He added: "If God had not created questioning, there would be no science and no philosophy. So viva question! Of course, I do not mean cheap and hollow questions like what do I eat today – I rather mean fundamental questions about existence."

He then termed Allameh Tabatabaei as the greatest Islamic philosopher of his time and asserted that although he did not leave many books behind, his grandeur mainly lies in his freethinking manners."
